Summer Series 2019
about the show
In July 2019, Small Stage blossomed with another incredible Summer Series! From tapping in the Polygon Fountain to twirling next to the hustle and bustle of Robson Street, the Summer Series brought the public a unique and memorable performance.
For this year’s show, dancers took inspiration from their favourite summer flowers to create incredible performances that made audiences say “What in carnation?!” Each show featured a variety of different dance pieces rooted in contemporary styles. These foot-traffic-stopping shows provided the perfect complement to a Vancouver summer evening to entertain lovers of dance and passers-by alike.
Our stage sprouted up in Bute Robson Plaza and the North Vancouver Shipyards every Saturday and Sunday throughout the month. On Saturdays, you could stroll to Bute Robson Plaza to catch their outdoor performance from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. On Sundays, audiences joined the show at the North Vancouver Shipyards for one show performed on three extremely unique stages, starting from inside the fountain at the Polygon Gallery, from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m.
Audiences were also given a sneak peak at Small Stage’s signature digital show component: The Small Stage App! Live demonstrations of the app showcased how Small Stage is using technology to give the world of dance another dimension. Each demonstration featured a freestyle dance from a Small Stage performer, and the app was used to bring props in the background to life!
